Mukhriz Hazim, a visual journalist from Malaysia and a fellow of our Content Creators Hub, dives into an exploration of the System of Rice Intensification (SRI). Amid the pressing challenge of climate change threatening rice production, Malaysia is on a quest to elevate its local rice production capabilities. Mukhriz’s video sheds light on an overlooked yet historically significant solution that has been underutilized in addressing this issue.

Here are Mukhriz Hazim’s reflections on creating this piece:

Previously, my work was confined to behind-the-scenes roles, lacking the confidence to step into the spotlight or share my voice.

However, recognizing the profound influence of content like short TikTok videos, coupled with my passion for storytelling, particularly about nature and climate change, I embarked on a journey beyond my comfort zone.
Through the fellowship, mentors empowered me to overcome my hesitations, enabling me to produce compelling content. It’s akin to an old dog learning new tricks, proving that it’s never too late to embrace technology and explore new horizons.
