Climate Tracker Asia proudly celebrates the remarkable achievement of our esteemed Journalism Mentor, Gaea Cabico, who has been awarded a Special Citation for the Most Development-Oriented Online Feature Article at this year’s Gandingan Awards. The awards ceremony, held on May 4, 2024, at the Charles Fuller Baker Memorial Hall, is a cornerstone event organized by the UP Community Broadcasters’ Society (ComBroadSoc) at the University of the Philippines Los Baños.

This year’s theme, ‘Agrikultura: Mga Kuwento ng Hamon at Pag-asa,’ (Agriculture: Stories of Challenges and Hope) highlights the significant challenges and hopes within the agricultural sectors in the Philippines. Gaea’s award-winning article, ‘In Lupang Ramos, resistance and hope after a letdown at polls,’ masterfully narrates the enduring struggle of the Lupang Ramos farmers. Her work sheds light on their decades-long fight for land rights, a pivotal issue affecting not only the community’s sustainability but also the broader socio-economic fabric of the nation.

Gaea’s feature not only underscores the pressing need for genuine land reform but also celebrates the spirit of resilience and community solidarity that prevails even in the face of adversity. Through her exceptional storytelling, Gaea has amplified the voices of those often marginalized in our society, contributing significantly to the discourse on development and social justice.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Gaea for this well-deserved recognition and thank her for her relentless dedication to bringing to the forefront the stories of our farmers and agricultural communities. Her work continues to inspire and challenge us all to keep the rights and welfare of every Filipino at the heart of our journalistic endeavors.
